Editing

Podcasts can be edited using a variety of different software. To learn more about recording and editing software, you can look at the recording and editing software topic in the production section. When editing the content of a podcast, pay close attention to any sounds, interference or dialogue that might negatively impact the listening experience.

For example:

  • Extended silence
  • Coughs and sneezes
  • Awkward segments
  • Heavy repetition of filler words like “um” or “like”

You can also add pre-recorded intros or outros during the editing process, which is great if you expect to make a running series of podcasts.

Finally, you can add sound effects and music, if you desire.

Some great places to find sound effects and music are:

Premium Beat: Royalty-free music and sound effects.

Pixabay: Free resource for high-quality royalty-free stock music.

Free Music Archive: An “open source” approach to music with plenty of options.

Remember to check the usage rights for all sound effects and music you want to use and ensure you use and credit them correctly.
