Deisy Castillo

I work as a training consultant and have some years of experience as an instructional designer as well. At my workplace, technology adoption has been slow. We have to think about providing alternative solutions for our busy adult learners. I find podcasts to one of them. After listening to podcasts for entertainment and motivation for a while, I found my favourite podcast: Huberman Lab. This podcast is hosted by a professor at Standford University who discusses neuroscience. From this podcast, I have learned about brain functioning and the use of podcasts for learning, even in complex domains.

Jessica Cammaert Raval

As a faculty-member turned instructional designer, I work to create bridges between post-secondary instructors and the world of learning experience design. Currently, I am applying my decade’s worth of experience in higher education to the development and implementation of high-quality eLearning programs for a national regulatory body. A historian by heart, I enjoy listening to The History of England podcast by David Crowther, as well as the productivity podcast, I’m Busy Being Awesome by Paula Engebretson.

Graham Herrick

I am a learning experience designer that has been working in China for the past eight years. Recently, I have returned to Canada, and I am excited to begin the next chapter of my professional development. Currently, podcasts play a significant role in my professional development and learning. I often listen to podcasts to learn about new technology, innovative design principles and learn from the shared experiences of other industry experts. One podcast I have learned a lot from is TLDCast, and one podcast that I find very motivational is Jocko Podcast.

Chris Howey

I am a middle school MYP English Language and Literature and Individuals and societies teacher working in Bali, Indonesia. I am originally from North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This is my 9th year teaching internationally. I’m interested in the possibilities that podcasts allow for my students to express and share their perspectives to a wider authentic audience. My favourite podcast is TWIT (This Week in Tech).

Kendall Johnson

I am a teacher from Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Currently, I’m in a grade two classroom, though I’ve taught kindergarten through grade six over my 23 years in the profession. I am interested in how podcasts can affect learning and be used to amplify student voice. One educational podcast I’ve really enjoyed is Brian Aspinall’s Code Breaker series, and my favourite entertainment podcast is Smartless.

Erica Hargreave

My world is glorious mix of storytelling and education. Over the years, I’ve worked in grade school, post-secondary and community education, teaching the sciences, natural and cultural history, and media studies. These days my focus is on contemporary media at BCIT and through StoryToGo. In terms of podcasting, I have the pandemic to thank for that new-to-me storytelling passion, now playing with 4 shows with my team, 2 of Ralph Talmont’s (pictured with me above at TEDxWarsaw), and 1 for MozFest. A couple of my favourite podcasts include StoryForward and The Creative Farm, which both explore contemporary media.
