Now that you’ve practiced and know your equipment well you’re ready to record audio for your podcast. When you start recording introduce yourself and welcome your listeners to the conversation as this will help set the tone (BBC, 2021). Relax and enjoy yourself; it’s a conversation after all, and remember that although you want quality audio from a technical standpoint, don’t worry if you say the wrong thing or go off script (that’s what good conversations do). As long as your podcast isn’t being broadcast live, you can edit out the mistakes later.

Remind yourself of this as it might help you relax, and it will help your interviewee feel at ease too. So, keep the recording rolling as you may pick up unexpected moments that are casual and genuine. Plus you need to collect background audio (ambient sound) for your editing later. Don’t be afraid to record as much as you need, your only limit is your device’s available storage.

Have fun and tell your story!
